Ashley size guide
Find your perfect fit in a minute
The Ashley is one central stud on the lower lip. Only two things decide the fit: the gauge, which is the thickness of the bar, and the length, which is the bar between the flat back and the top. Here is how to get both right.
16G, which is 1.2mm
Every Ashley stud we make is 16G (1.2mm), the standard the Ashley is pierced at. You do not need to choose this. If your studio pierced you at a different gauge, email us before you order and we will guide you.
6, 8 or 10mm
This is the part you choose. It is the length of the post between the flat back inside your lip and the top on the outside. Too short presses on the piercing, too long catches on your teeth. The right length sits flush and comfortable.
The length is only the bar between the flat back and the top, not the whole piece.
Which length is for you
For a settled piercing and thinner lips, when you want the top sitting close and flush. The lowest profile look.
The most common Ashley length. A comfortable fit for most healed piercings, enough room without catching on your teeth.
For a newer piercing that may still swell, or fuller lips that need more room. Size down later once everything settles.
Not sure how to measure
- If you already wear a labret. Unscrew the top, then measure the straight bar between the flat back and where the top sits, in millimetres. That number is your length.
- If you are new to the Ashley. Start with 8mm. It fits most healed piercings and is the easiest to live with day to day.
- If your piercing is fresh or still a little swollen. Choose 10mm to leave room, then order a shorter 8mm or 6mm once it has fully calmed down.
The one mistake to avoid
The most common regret is ordering too short. A lip that is still healing swells, and a short bar then presses into the piercing. When in doubt, size up. You can always switch to a shorter length once you are fully settled.
Good to know: our tops are internally threaded, so the top screws securely onto the bar. The only exception is the Ashley Brilliant, which is threadless and uses a push pin, so it pushes in to secure and pulls out to remove.
